Thanksgiving Wine Pairing Guide

It is somehow already the middle of November and Thanksgiving is right around the corner.  With the holidays a lot of people ask what wine they should bring to their dinners.  Whether you are gathering with a group for a Friendsgiving or attending a more traditional family Thanksgiving dinner, wine is always a great dish to pass!  To help decide which wines to bring to the table we have adapted a pairing strategy from www.wines.com that involved the main ingredient of most Thanksgiving dinners.

T – Toast with #SundayFunday Sparkling

Sparkling wine will pair well with the salads and stuffing dishes.  It also is a great way to start the dinner with a toast and to celebrate the company you are with and the food you are about to receive.  Say your thanks with a glass of sparkling wine!

U – Unique Wine for Each Course

Since most Thanksgiving gatherings are larger groups, it is a great time to open up multiple bottles.  Each course of your Thanksgiving dinner has a unique flavor and so different wines will work well with different dishes.  There also will be a lot of unique palates and everyone will have a different wine preference.   Choose from a variety of midwestern varietals and they will surely pair well with your meal.

R – Red & White

Offer guests or bring along your favorite red and white wine.  This will give everyone the choice, since a lot of people have different preferences.  Two great go to reds from Timber Hill are Frontenac and Throwback Thursday Red.  For white wines two crowd favorites are the Seyval Blanc or Widow’s Weekend White Blend.

K – Know Your Guests

Do most people in you family like to drink sweet wine?  Then stick with a couple #SocialSweetSeries wines.  If you have an aunt who loves a dry red, try a bottle of Antler Shed Red.  Gatherings are a great way to introduce people to your favorite wines that may be similar to their favorites too!

E – End on a Sweet Note

A great sweet wine to end on would be our new Wisconsin Cranberry!  Turkey, stuffing, and the rest of your Thanksgiving dishes wouldn’t be complete without some cranberry sauce.  Swap out the jiggly bowl of cranberry jelly for a bottle of sweet, with a hint of tartness Cranberry Wine.
