Some Herd members remember exactly when they signed up. Others just remember Amanda telling them it was probably time.
“I don’t remember when I first joined the Herd, but I do remember Amanda telling Jodi and I that we should just join because we were spending the same amount whether we were a member or not. So we did.”
And just like that, another longtime Herd story began.
Memories From the Original Rooms
Over the years, there have been plenty of Timber Hill memories, but some of the favorites come from those early days at the original Storrs Lake location.
There were classes for just about everything: making Christmas ornaments out of wine corks, decorating wine glasses, even doing nails. There were also plenty of days spent lending a hand bottling wine in the beginning years.
One favorite keepsake from that era is still around today: a wine rack handmade by Amanda’s dad.
And the involvement with Timber Hill didn’t stop at the winery. Working and volunteering at Uncork Me became another favorite tradition – a chance to have fun while proudly representing Timber Hill Winery.
Watching a Dream Grow
Perhaps the most meaningful part of the last decade has been having a front-row seat to everything Amanda has built.
From the first little outdoor patio at the Storrs Lake location to the move to John Paul Road, Timber Hill continued to get bigger, but the story didn’t stop there.
Then came Cervato.
Watching Amanda see another dream come to life with the opening of Cervato in Madison was especially meaningful after witnessing everything it took to get Timber Hill to this point.
“She is an inspiration to everyone on how hard work can make your dreams come true.”
So, What Keeps Her Coming Back?
Supporting a friend’s business might have been part of the reason in the beginning, but over the years, Timber Hill became a place worth returning to all on its own.
There’s wine for just about every palate, a drink menu with options even if wine isn’t your thing, plenty of food, and always something happening.
Trivia. Bingo. Live music. Or simply an afternoon spent catching up with friends.
It’s that combination – and the people behind it – that has made Timber Hill a place to keep coming back to year after year.
A Favorite That Keeps Changing
Picking one favorite wine after all these years isn’t exactly easy.
The original favorites included Delaware, Diamond, and Tuesday. Today, there are still plenty of contenders, but White Fox Wonder and Muscat usually battle it out for the top spot.
Maybe changing your favorite a few times is inevitable when you’ve been around long enough to try so many of them.
Here’s to the Next 10
Ten years later, there’s a lot to look back on: tiny tasting rooms, crafting nights, bottling days, patios, new buildings, events, new wines, and eventually an entirely new location.
But more than anything, there’s pride in seeing what a friend’s idea became.
“I am so happy for Amanda and Timber Hill Winery. What she has accomplished in these past 10 years is simply amazing, and I know that the next 10 years will probably have many new surprises that we get to look forward to.”
And one final message for Amanda:
“Amanda, I am so proud of you and am happy that I get to be a part of it!!”
