What is a Cardboard Boat Regatta?
A Cardboard Boat Regatta is a race where participants create boats out of cardboard and race them on water. The goal is to build a boat that can float and be paddled across a designated course. It’s all about creativity, engineering, and having a great time!
Safety: Life jackets are mandatory for all participants but are not provided.
Team Sizes: Teams should include at least two, no more than four people!
Boat Restrictions:
- The base of your boat must be provided by Timber Hill Winery
- No electrical power sources will be allowed on any boat once in contact with the water.
- Metal or plastic staples, clamps, nails, screws, etc, may NOT be used. “Sono-Tubes” or any other type of pre-treated or coated cardboard that has been processed in such a way as to waterproof the cardboard may not be used.
- Boats may be painted with water-based paint or water sealer like Thompson’s Water Seal Stain. All paint and stain must be dry before the boat enters the water. Tar, wax, silicone, fiberglass resins, epoxy glues or Styrofoam are prohibited.
- Any oars or paddles may be made out of any material.
